Suture Needles
Barber of Sheffield Needles
Barber of Sheffield are the market leaders for eyed suture needles, with our needles supplied worldwide to veterinary practices, hospitals and clinics. Â
Manufactured from high grade stainless steel, our needles undergo a rigorous quality control procedure to ensure a high standard of sharpness, rigidity, durability and presentation. The needles are hand honed for added sharpness to ensure a smooth, less traumatic passage through tissue.
Eyed needles can be offered in regular, French or spring eye and in conventional cutting or reverse cutting. Conventional cutting needles have the cutting edge on the inside of the needle curvature and hence directed towards the wound, whereas reverse cutting needles have the cutting edge on the outside, with the flat surface directed towards the wound. Round bodied needles taper gradually to a point, whereas triangular bodies have cutting edges along three sides.
We have a variety of suture needle shapes available, including 3/8 circle (curved), 1/2 curved, 1/2 circle and straight, as well as different body types - round and triangular. In addition to the standard suture needles, we also offer a post mortem needle range, which are larger and thicker. These are available in 3/8 circle (curved), 1/2 curved, straight and serpentine (s-shaped). 3/8 Circle Eyed Suture Needles
The 3/8 circle needles, which are also referred to as ‘curved’, are the most commonly used needle. The curvature makes it easy to manipulate in large or superficial wounds. The needles are available in packs of 12, in the following variants:
